Since the scientific name of the peach is persica, many people believe that peaches were native to Persia. But that's actually incorrect. According to modern day botanical experts, peaches were grown and cultiavted in China because they were a favorite food of the emperors. Peaches then traveled along the silk road to Persia and the Mediterranean regions where they thrived.

Although Spanish explorers are credited with bringin peaches to the US, it's actually the Native Americans who cultivated them. As they traveled and moved across the country, Native Americans brought along peaches and planted them.
