5:30 AM
It's 5:30 AM, we're running of two hours of sleep, and we have to wear these oh-so fasionable clothes. Our day at Rungis begins.
-
Fish Pavilion
This will give you an idea of how huge the fish building really is. And it's ever fishmonger's dream. You have to be playing with the big boys to sell your fish here.
-
Careful Examination
We can identify most of the fish here - something we're really proud of - because we've made them in class.
-
Frog Legs
Sad but true - the French love frog's legs. I thought these were beautifully packaged and presented.
-
Crab Claws
Heaven on ice if you ask me. These will sell for about 12 Euros per kilo. There are 5 kilos in this box so I'll let you do the math. A bargain in my book. And I could have eaten the whole box myself!
-
Veal
I was surprised to learn how big veal really is. Before I came to school, I wouldn't touch the stuff since I had images of this little tiny calf all penned up. Now I don't feel so guilty about enjoying it. Would you believe these calves are 120 days old? That's a big kid.
-
Can Can Cows
These cows seemed to be doing the can can.
-
Mmmm... Steak
This steak is almost a foot tall. After I kept seeing these all over the market, I really wanted some red meat!
-
Family Business
Meat runs through this family's veins. Here a son with his slightly shy father pose for my camera.
-
Take A Bite
Lani prepares to sample some of the meat for sale.
-
Say Cheese
Ashley pretends to lick a rather large wheel of cheese. Too bad she didn't - maybe we could have taken it home!
-
Mold Is Good
Even though this cheese looks old because of the mold, it's really rather fresh. Yummy!
-
Figs
Nothing says happiness like a crate full of figs. It's all I could do to keep my hands off them. And hey, if the crate is any sort of guarantee, these guys are experts! How can I argue with that?
-
Peppers
These yummy little one bite treats are evidently quite hot.
-
Fruit and Vegetable Pavilion
This is just one of 14 buildings housing fruits and vegetables. Can you believe there's one whole building just dedicated to mushrooms? Sounds like my idea of a good time!
-
??
I have no idea what these are, but boy they look pretty!
-
Flowers
A florists' dream!
-
Roses
Rows and rows of roses in the most amazing colors greated us in the flower pavilion.
-
Red Velvet
These roses looked like red velvet. I wanted to wrap myself up in them and take a nap.
-
Gerbers
Gerber daisies were everywhere in bright, passionate colors.

Happy Birthday
Since Lani's birthday was today, we each decorated our own shirts to spell out Happy Birthday Lani. She was rather surprised - and probably embarrased. Some of the decorating materials included red wine, green mustard, soy sauce and tomatoes. At lease we were creative!
